2020 is here! Instead of a new you, just become a better you. We have put together 5 ways you can improve yourself in 2020 and become an even better gentleman.
SET YOUR ALARM A HALF AN HOUR EARLIER
How you start your day is so important! Utilize this extra time to do something good for your brain such as journaling, meditation or writing out a to-do list for the day. Even having your cup of coffee in a quiet, relaxed space will improve your mood. Just 30 minutes of extra time will bring big change!
LEARN A NEW SKILL
Find something you have always wanted to learn, and do it! It can be as simple as learning how to cook, or as intricate as learning woodworking. Just find something you do not already know how to do and commit to learning it. This new skill will fuel your creativity and give you a sense of accomplishment.
WEAR CLOTHING YOU FEEL CONFIDENT IN
When getting dressed, analyze how you feel in what you are wearing. If you feel like you want to hide, change the outfit. This doesn’t mean you have to dress up each day in a full suit and tie, it means being intentional in what you select to wear for the day ahead, as it can contribute to how you feel that day. Sure ways to help feel confident: iron or steam your clothing if wrinkled, and make sure they are clean with no tears or holes.
PRACTICE THE ART OF LISTENING
There is no better way to improve your communication skills than to focus on and improve your listening skills. There is a big difference between listening and hearing. Do you catch yourself thinking of what you will say next when someone else is speaking? This is hearing them, but not actually listening. Listening requires full attention and intent. When listening, observe the tone and body language of the person communicating with you, and make eye contact. Take a breathe when they are done speaking before responding.
CONNECT WITH PEOPLE (YES, THIS INCLUDES STRANGERS)
In our fast-paced world, it is easy to go about our day without actually connecting with those around us. To connect with the world a little better, smile at strangers, open doors, make eye contact, say hello, and spark random conversations (waiting in lines and in elevators are great spots for conversations and connections). Making these additions to your life will make you more approachable which in turn can open doors to new opportunities and connections.
